Luxor

Luxor is often called the world’s greatest open-air museum—and for good reason. Sitting along the banks of the Nile River in southern Egypt, this historic city was once the ancient capital of Thebes, a powerful center of religion and politics during the height of ancient Egyptian civilization.
What makes Luxor so remarkable is its extraordinary concentration of temples, tombs, and monuments. On the east bank of the Nile, you’ll find the magnificent Karnak Temple, one of the largest religious complexes ever built, and the beautifully preserved Luxor Temple, especially stunning when illuminated at night. These temples were dedicated mainly to the god Amun and showcase the architectural brilliance of the ancient Egyptians.
Across the river on the west bank lies the famous Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs—including Tutankhamun—were buried in elaborately decorated tombs hidden deep in the desert hills. Nearby, the dramatic Hatshepsut Temple rises against the cliffs, honoring one of Egypt’s most powerful female rulers.
Luxor is more than just ancient ruins—it’s a living city where history blends with everyday life. Traditional markets, horse-drawn carriages, and felucca boats on the Nile create a timeless atmosphere. Whether you’re exploring temples at sunrise or drifting along the river at sunset, Luxor offers a unique journey into humanity’s distant past.
